A day in Kilcullen and a review of An Tearmann
Sometimes I think, you forget what's on your own doorstep. I'm so lucky to live in Kilcullen, I've loved it from the moment we moved here many years ago.
There are lots of great shops and places to eat in the town and as today was so gorgeous we decided to take a stroll down to the town and have some lunch. Mark had some paintings exhibited in An Tearmann so I wanted to have a wee look and also have a ramble around the nature walk in the Bridge Community. This is such a fantastic amenity to have near us, it's a really peaceful place to have a wander or even to just sit by the river. Today it looked particularly beautiful as the sun shone and lots of flowers were still in bloom.
There are hens and ducks, pigs and sheep to be seen, lots of nice places to sit and relax, a perfect chill out place for all the family.
I was getting pretty hungry after we had walked for a bit so we headed up to An Tearmann for some food.
We ordered and went to sit upstairs and had a look at some of the paintings on exhibit by the Kilcullen Art Group, including Mark's which were my favourites naturally :)
The shop itself is lovely and we've been going there for a long time and lived in the Camphill Community for a year as volunteers, so I always feel right at home there. It does have a really cosy relaxed atmosphere, very far from corporate coffee shops that have sprung up everywhere. It is also a really important part of the community as it provides a place for the villagers to work and interact, villagers being the term used for the adults with special needs who live and work in the Bridge.
Food arrived...
My chicken and bacon caesar salad was perfect, just what I wanted. The chicken and bacon were warm and had just the right amount of dressing as well as homemade croutons and a slice of brown bread (again homemade) on the side. Delicious!
Mark really enjoyed his veggie wrap, it had roasted peppers, mozarella and sundried tomatoes with a pesto dressing as well as crisps on the side and freshly made coleslaw.
I really like the fact that the soft drinks are organic and the desserts are pretty amazing too but we saved ourselves for another treat, more of that in a little bit.
It was €17.00 for the two of us including one coffee which was great value for such a lovely lunch. I also have to mention that their scones are the nicest I have ever had!
Here are some pics of the shop, also a great place to buy gifts and homewares..
Onwards we went, heading home but this is where our dessert comes in - we popped in to our friend Armelle's shop which is called Armelle's Kitchen for a tarte au fraise which I had spotted on the way down. Luckily there was one left for me and we also got a tarte au citron and a selection of macarons which are the best macarons anywhere. Home to coffee and our yummy treats -
What a glorious day it was and you can see we were having a good time -
So if you haven't yet been to Kilcullen, you're missing out ;)
What a gorgeous place. It's funny how you never really take advantage of something that is on your doorstep. I live on the coast but I can't remember the last time I went to the beach.
Yeps, I definitely feel like I'm missing out now! Lovely review of what seems like a very lovely place.

Where is this magical picturesque place that appears to have been lifted straight out of a fairytale? How gorgeous is the bridge and loved that colorful building too.

Kilcullen looks so lovely! I think we all need to remind ourselves of the beauty where we live. We often take it for granted. I particularly liked the pics of the shop.
What a lovely review. Those macroons look so yummy, I want so now haha. Looks like the sort of place I'd love to spend the weekend with himself.
